For 25 years, Jennifer Corriero has been a driving force for improving access to learning opportunities for children and youth. She has a passion for supporting young people in bringing their ideas to life through community based projects. She co-founded TakingITGlobal in 1999, a charitable organization is based in Toronto, Canada (Treaty 13 Territory) with team members across 5 time zones. The organization delivers programs that leverage the power creativity and technology for social impact in three key areas:
- Supporting Youth Action & Social Innovation
- Facilitating Connected Learning
- Fostering Creativity & Digital Skills
Jennifer has expertise in the area of facilitation, program design, community development, digital learning, intercultural exchanges and systems change. She has her Masters in Environmental Studies and is a member of several professional associations as a representative of TakingITGlobal including the Canadian Association of Science Centres, the Ontario Council for International Cooperation, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Canadian Evaluation Society, the National Alliance for Children and Youth.
In 2024 she curated a book called Connected North in Our Classroom with 22 educators as contributing authors. In 2022, she curated and co-edited Flourish: A Workbook for Social Innovators, with 50 contributing authors. This resource was provided to participants of the 2023 Sprout Ideas Fellowship. In 2019 she authored the book Journey of a Social Innovator: A Guided Journal and has extensive experience with leading collaborative teams. Between 2018 - 2024 she also helped to publish a series of children’s books with 5 different Indigenous authors.
In her role as Executive Director of TakingITGlobal, she leads digital learning programs including Connected North, which currently serves over 35,000 Indigenous students in over 200 schools in northern, remote First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities throughout Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon Territories, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Jennifer also oversees various grants programs including Digital Inclusion Grants (2021-2024), the Samuel Connected North Youth Leadership Fund (since 2017) and the #RisingYouth program that was supported by the Government of Canada between 2018-2022. #RisingYouth provided youth (age 15-30) with project micro grants grants to lead community service projects. The fund has distributed over 7 million dollars in grants towards over 7,000 youth-led projects in every Province and Territory across Canada.
In the first decade of the organization, it was known for building one of the world’s first social networks for social change, attracting over 50 million users from over 200 countries in the early days of the internet. TakingITGlobal has been honored with various awards including the 2017 Digital Transformation Award, Intercultural Innovation Award, Tech Museum Award in the Education Category, the WorldBlu List of Most Democratic Workplaces, the Canadian Awards for International Cooperation and the Global Youth Talent Award by the Government of Extremadura, Spain.
Jennifer holds a Masters in Environmental Studies and has served as Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health at York University where she previously was Advisor to the Dean. She has been recognized by the Women’s Executive Network as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. Jennifer has been named by Forbes as an ‘Innovative Rising Star’, and has been a judge for a range of awards including the EdTech Digest Awards, World Summit Youth Award, and Buckminister Fuller Challenge. In 2003, Jennifer was a member of the Official Canadian Government Delegation to the World Summit on the Information Society. She has traveled to over 40 countries, presenting at conferences and supporting civil society engagement. Jennifer was appointed as a 2023 Community Fellow with the Wellness Impact Lab (WIL), Dahdaleh Institute at York University.
